Book: Complete Idiots Guide To Wicca And Witchcraft by Denise Zimmermann
This guide offers a beginner's look at the history of paganism, Wicca, and witchcraft, from the Druids and Celts to the witches of today who practice an earth-based religion, cast spells, and perform natural magic. The book, written by a practicing witch, reveals details ofthe witches' Sabbaths, ceremonies, and altars. In line with other “Idiot's” guides, there are four different cartoon boxes throughout the whole book with hints and tips:
1) Banish - a starburst with smoke rising warning against pitfalls.
2) So Mote It Be - a cute witch with a wreath of flowers in her hair giving tips that will "increase your understanding of Wicca.".
3) Web weaving - a silly spider's web with hands coming out the sides giving you "fascinating facts.”.
4) Book of Shadows - a cartoon book relating Wiccan terms.
Throughout the book are cartoons featuring a housewifely looking Witch performing magickal activities.
Unfortunately, the very first pages of this book turned me off big time when I saw they had labeled the elemental pentagrams incorrectly and labeled a photo of the Venus de Milo (the one with no arms) Venus of Willendorf! There are many more inaccuracies and oversimplifications throughout the remainder of the book, but I think these two major errors in the very beginning of the book are enough for me to totally disregard this book as anything other than a waste of paper.
The book claims that Denise Zimmerman is an experienced Wiccan High Priestess of some repute in the eastern part of the United States, but the quality of information contained in this book makes that claim highly suspect.
