The Wand can also be used to return a Priestess or Priest from invocation by striking the person on the shoulder with the Wand and speaking the person's name; its connection with the Earth gives it a natural grounding action.
The Wand can also be used for dowsing or sensing energy flows; if used properly, it can increase a person's natural sensitivity to local changes in energy fields. Hold the wand lightly but securely, keeping the wrist relaxed, and move it horizontally across the region of interest; take note of any place where the wand seems to pull downward or upward.
The Wand is a masculine tool associated with Earth, from which it grew; some traditions associate it with Fire or Air. It is paired with the Censer; together they are used for invocation.
