IndoPagan. You may have never heard the term before, but among a growing number of people, this name describes their spiritual path. It is a path that blends the Western tradition of NeoPaganism with Eastern traditions of South Asian origin, most commonly with Hinduism. Up until fairly recently the bulk of those following an IndoPagan path believed themselves to be alone. But as knowledge of this combined-tradition path spreads, its practitioners are beginning to meet one another — and even form nascent communities. This is our story.

What Is Worship

What does it mean to worship? Many people are quick to start the answer to that, only to trail off at the end of their first sentence as they realize that it's not easily defined.

Is worship getting down on your knees in a church pew, locking your fingers together and saying a few short words? Is it sitting cross-legged in the middle of a Circle, surrounded by candles, and saying those same with words, with different names? Is it lighting a candle on Candlemas, scattering flowers on Beltaine, singing songs underneath a silver full moon?

I believe that worship is anything done with love in mind. Every breath that you take in peace, every athame you raise to cast Circles with spirit, every cent you donate to a charity, every paintbrush taken to a blank canvas, every note that comes from a guitar, every hug and every shoulder to cry on.

To worship means to adore, venerate, honor. What could be better worship then living our lives as companions and friends to the world, altruistic and heartfelt with our care?

To worship means to devote time and attention to something we love. Worship is not just the conventional ways we have grown to accept. It's not as mundane and tangible as that, although it can be. We serve whatever Deity might exist just as much by writing a poem wreathed with our emotions and feelings then we do whispering a prayer into the silence.

If there is a God or a Goddess, a Supreme Being and Higher Power, then we are their creations, their children, and so their divinity runs through us as much as our biological parent's genes run through us. We are little pieces of God. We have the inherent power, wisdom and beauty of this Deity flowing through our veins, and so whenever we are kind to one another, we are helping and honoring the Deity. Whenever we dream, think, grow, smile, adventure, laugh, we are adding something to the lifepool of divinity. Whenever we create something beautiful, be it a picture, an ice-cream sundae, or a warm feeling, we are showing our celestial. We are contributing to the well-being and furtherment of the Earth...and so we are worshipping.

To worship is to live, truly live.

What Covens Can And Cannot Do For Their Students

* Magical and spiritual power comes only from the Gods.
* The knowledge and skill you need to use that power effectively come from your own hard work. coven training is the easiest and safest way to learn and to practice in a supportive context. Alternatively, you might seek individual training from an elder you respect. Be aware that the best training system accomplishes nothing unless you actually do the work. And there certainly are skilled and empowered Witches who are solitary and completely self-trained.
* Credentials come from other people. If community recognition is important to you, you should join a coven that is part of a lineage, one whose elders have traditional religious authority to bring others into that collective. If legal clergy status matters, look for a group that is affiliated with one of the duly incorporated organizations like Covenant of the Goddess. Of course, one coven can convey both types of credential -- as Proteus Coven does.

Be mindful, though, that power, skill, and credentials are three entirely separate things. No one of them can substitute for either of the others, nor prove that either of the others is also present.

What Is Christian Wicca

Christian Wicca is a combination of Wicca and a form of Christianity. They base their practices on the Bible, Wicca, Kabbalah, and the Gnostic Gospels. Most practitioners of Christian Wicca believe that God is manifested to us through the Father, the Son, and the mother. They believe the Holy Spirit is female and is referred to by many as the Spiritual Mother.

Is Christian Wicca compatible with Christianity? Why do they want to merge the two belief systems? Christianity is absolute about the fact that there is only one God, the Creator of the universe who sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to provide salvation to mankind. In fact, the Bible commands that there is only on God. Wicca believes in two deities - a god and a goddess. The main point of these two belief systems do not agree. How can they be compatible?

The next point on which they differ is Mary. Christianity says that Mary was a mortal woman who gave birth to an immortal child. The Bible forbids the worship of Mary. Wicca places Mary on the same level as God Himself.

Christians believe in the sinfulness of man. According to the Bible, all people are born sinners. Wicca says that sin is the result of our actions.

Christian Wicca is not possible because the terms are an oxymoron! The theologies do not agree. In fact, the Bible denounces witchcraft and many of the practices of Wicca. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says, "Let no one be found among you who… practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells…Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD..."

What may look like a simple and harmless act of entertainment or assistance is actually a mask on the devil's detour signs, pointing and directing us away from God and away from His Word. As his children, we are to follow after him and not after other sources of what may seem to be legitimate powers or influences. If we love God with all our hearts we will not halfheartedly seek him while dabbling in the dark corners of Wicca, nor peruse the enchantments of witches and sorcerers to discover enlightenment.

Wicca is the devil's tool, and was created, as it says is John 10:10, " . . . to steal and kill and destroy; I [Jesus Christ] have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
